SPOILER ALERT: Life is grand with a best friend by your side。 THE CORGI AND THE QUEEN celebrates the constant companionship of Elizabeth of York—the future Queen Elizabeth II—and her corgi pup, Susan。 This true-to-life picture book follows the duo from Elizabeth’s eighteenth birthday, when she wished for and received Susan as a gift, through the lonely days of World War II, and on to the royal wedding (is that a stowaway in the carriage?) and life at Buckingham Palace。 Treat-filled stockings at SPOILER ALERT: Life is grand with a best friend by your side。 THE CORGI AND THE QUEEN celebrates the constant companionship of Elizabeth of York—the future Queen Elizabeth II—and her corgi pup, Susan。 This true-to-life picture book follows the duo from Elizabeth’s eighteenth birthday, when she wished for and received Susan as a gift, through the lonely days of World War II, and on to the royal wedding (is that a stowaway in the carriage?) and life at Buckingham Palace。 Treat-filled stockings at Christmas! Gourmet meals! Heartfelt and gorgeous illustrations portray daily rituals and the feisty Susan getting into all manner of doggy trouble。 Fun for fans of pups, princesses, and royal history。 And don’t miss the closing pages that chronicle Susan’s descendants。 A dynasty of corgis rules! 。。。more

To truly know the Queen, you have to know her corgis。 Author Caroline Perry introduces young readers to the monarch through the tender lens of her love for dogs。 In this sweet narrative, the Queen needs them as much as they need her。 Important moments in history are weaved throughout the book and offer interesting historical facts, making this book a great read for Women's History Month。 Lydia Corry’s mid-century style whimsical illustrations were gorgeous and engaging。 This book is a beautiful To truly know the Queen, you have to know her corgis。 Author Caroline Perry introduces young readers to the monarch through the tender lens of her love for dogs。 In this sweet narrative, the Queen needs them as much as they need her。 Important moments in history are weaved throughout the book and offer interesting historical facts, making this book a great read for Women's History Month。 Lydia Corry’s mid-century style whimsical illustrations were gorgeous and engaging。 This book is a beautiful and heartwarming way to remember the late Queen Elizabeth。 I highly recommend THE CORGI AND THE QUEEN! What a delightful story about Queen Elizabeth and her special relationship with her dogs! Caroline Perry has found the perfect hook through which children can learn about this iconic figure and her role as the monarch of a nation, and also relate to her as a person, through her love for her corgis。 Lydia Corry’s illustrations perfectly complement the prim and proper Queen that we know while also revealing her vulnerable moments with her beloved Susan。 I learned so much reading this book, and I t What a delightful story about Queen Elizabeth and her special relationship with her dogs! Caroline L。 Perry did a magnificent job hooking children in this picture book biography by speaking directly to their hearts。 The Corgi and the Queen is infused with raw emotion readers can connect to as it chronicles moments between Queen Elizabeth and her corgi companions。 Despite all the fame, this book speaks of something deeper; that of the love between a dog and its owner。 It becomes even more poignant in the wake of the Queen's recent passing, yet Perry words and Lydia Corry's whimsical i Caroline L。 Perry did a magnificent job hooking children in this picture book biography by speaking directly to their hearts。 The Corgi and the Queen is infused with raw emotion readers can connect to as it chronicles moments between Queen Elizabeth and her corgi companions。 Despite all the fame, this book speaks of something deeper; that of the love between a dog and its owner。 It becomes even more poignant in the wake of the Queen's recent passing, yet Perry words and Lydia Corry's whimsical illustrations make us feel comforted and hopeful。This is an honest review for a digital ARC I received。 。。。more

Reviewing this book the week that the Queen passed away is bittersweet。 It makes me sad that she didn't read this book- she would've been thrilled to have held a book that speaks of her struggles behind the brave face she put on-- losing her papa at 25 and becoming Queen。 I learnt so much of her will power and her love for her first corgi- Susan, that was gifted to her on her 18th birthday。 The illustrations are super sweet and the backmatter is so so wonderful。 A family tree of the Queen of Eng Reviewing this book the week that the Queen passed away is bittersweet。 It makes me sad that she didn't read this book- she would've been thrilled to have held a book that speaks of her struggles behind the brave face she put on-- losing her papa at 25 and becoming Queen。 I learnt so much of her will power and her love for her first corgi- Susan, that was gifted to her on her 18th birthday。 The illustrations are super sweet and the backmatter is so so wonderful。 A family tree of the Queen of England and one of her corgis, too! This review is based on an ARC provided by the publisher。 。。。more

Fascinating look at the life of Queen Elizabeth and her beloved dog, Susan! Such a clever way to educate kids about this historical figure -- though the kid-friendly and compelling lens of her relationship with her pet。 There are plenty of interesting facts and details, but it reads like an engaging narrative。 The colorful illustrations are detailed and bring each scene to life。 I highly recommend THE CORGI AND THE QUEEN。 It will be excellent for reading in schools and at home with children of a Fascinating look at the life of Queen Elizabeth and her beloved dog, Susan! In the wake of Queen Elizabeth II’s death, THE CORGI AND THE QUEEN takes on extra resonance。 It’s a beautiful story about the beloved queen’s friendship with her corgi Susan and how Susan helped shape the leader she became。 Animal-loving kids and Anglophiles of all ages will love Caroline L。 Perry’s lively text and Lydia’s Corry’s beautifully emotive illustrations (adults may notice a Kate Spade-esque vibe to the art)。 I accessed a digital ARC from the author。
